Autofocus Compatibility

The autofocus system of the AF FX NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D lens is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses and have an internal autofocus motor. For cameras without an internal autofocus motor, this lens will only allow for manual focus.

NOTE: This lens will NOT autofocus with the following Nikon camera models: D3000, D3100, D3200, D3300, D3400, D3500, D5000, D5100, D5200, D5300, D5500, D5600, D40, D40X, and D60. Users of these cameras must use manual focus with this lens.

Manual Focus and Aperture Control

When using manual focus, rotate the focus ring on the lens barrel to achieve sharp focus. The lens features a clear distance scale to assist with focusing.

The lens also includes an aperture control ring, allowing for manual adjustments of the aperture (f-stop). For cameras that control aperture electronically, ensure the aperture ring is locked at its minimum setting (f/22) to allow the camera to control the aperture. For manual aperture control, unlock the ring and set your desired f-stop directly on the lens.

Focal Length and Usage

This is a fixed 50mm focal length lens. On FX-format (full-frame) cameras, it provides a natural perspective similar to human vision. On DX-format (APS-C) cameras, the effective focal length becomes approximately 75mm (due to the 1.5x crop factor), making it ideal for portraits and tighter compositions.
