Flame King ACR-2 2-Stage Auto Changeover LP Propane Gas Regulator User Manual

Model: ACR-2 | Brand: Flame King

1. Introducció

The Flame King ACR-2 2-Stage Auto Changeover LP Propane Gas Regulator is designed for recreational vehicles (RVs), vans, and trailers equipped with dual propane tanks. This regulator automatically switches from the primary tank to the reserve tank when the primary tank is empty, ensuring an uninterrupted propane supply. It also allows for the removal of an empty cylinder for refill without interrupting the propane flow from the other tank. The double-stage design maintains constant gas pressure under changing demand and conditions, factory set at 11WC (water column).

2. Informació important de seguretat

Propane gas is highly flammable and can be dangerous if not handled properly. Always follow these safety guidelines to prevent injury or property damage:

  • Instal·lació professional: Installation should only be performed by a qualified service technician in accordance with all local codes and regulations.
  • Prova de fuites: Always perform a leak test on all connections after installation and whenever a propane tank is replaced or reconnected. Use a soapy water solution; never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Ventilació: Ensure adequate ventilation around the regulator and propane tanks. Do not enclose the regulator in an unvented compartment.
  • Ús adequat: Use only with LP (liquid propane) gas. Do not use with natural gas or any other fuel.
  • Inspecció de danys: Regularly inspect the regulator and hoses for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion. Replace damaged components immediately.
  • Llistat UL: This regulator is UL Listed, indicating it meets specific safety standards.
  • Advertència de la proposta 65: Aquest producte pot exposar-vos a substàncies químiques conegudes per l'estat de Califòrnia per causar càncer i defectes de naixement o altres danys reproductius.

4. Instruccions d'instal·lació

Follow these steps for proper installation of your Flame King ACR-2 regulator:

  1. Muntatge: Securely mount the regulator to your RV, van, or trailer's propane tank rack. The regulator is designed to mount perfectly on dual propane racks. Ensure the vent opening is positioned downward to prevent moisture accumulation and ice blockage.
  2. Connect Pigtails: Connect the pigtail hoses (not included) from each propane tank to the 1/4" SAE inverted flare inlets on the regulator. Ensure connections are tight.
  3. Connectar la presa de corrent: Connect your RV's propane supply line to the 3/8" NPT female pipe thread outlet on the regulator.
  4. Prova de fuites: After all connections are made, slowly open the valves on both propane tanks. Apply a soapy water solution to all connections. Bubbles indicate a leak. If a leak is detected, close the tank valves, tighten the connection, and re-test. Do not use the system if leaks persist.

5. Operating the Auto Changeover Regulator

The Flame King ACR-2 regulator simplifies propane management with its automatic changeover feature:

  1. Selecting Primary Tank: Turn the lever on the regulator towards the propane tank you wish to designate as the primary supply.
  2. Estat de l'indicador: If there is propane in the primary tank, the indicator will show VERD (or clear). Propane will begin to flow from this tank only, through the regulator, and to your appliances.
  3. Automatic Switchover: When the primary tank runs out of propane, the indicator will automatically change to VERMELL, and the regulator will automatically switch over to pulling propane from the other (reserve) tank.
  4. Refilling Empty Tank: Once the indicator shows VERMELL, you can rotate the lever to the other side (towards the full reserve tank). The indicator will then go VERD (or clear) again, confirming the reserve tank is now the primary supply. This allows you to safely remove the empty tank for refilling while propane continues to flow from the second tank.

6. Maintenance and Cold Weather Best Practices

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your propane regulator. Special attention is required in cold weather to prevent freeze-out:

  • Keep Moisture Out of the System:
    • Ensure propane tanks are properly sealed to prevent moisture contamination.
    • Use high-quality propane from reputable suppliers to minimize water content in the fuel.
    • Regularly drain moisture from the system if applicable.
    • Never let your propane tank run completely dry. Even if a tank hasn't been directly exposed to the elements, a small amount of water can still get inside if the tank is empty and the valve is left open. Air containing moisture can seep in, leading to rust and corrosion over time, which can cause long-term system issues.
    • Check with your propane supplier to see if they offer winter-grade propane mixtures. Some dealers provide specially blended propane formulations that help prevent water from freezing in the regulator and fuel lines, improving cold-weather performance.
  • Protect the Regulator from Snow and Ice:
    • Install a regulator cover or hood to shield it from direct snow, ice, and freezing rain.
    • Avoid placing the regulator in areas where ice or snow runoff can accumulate.
  • Maintain Proper Tank and Regulator Ventilation:
    • Keep the regulator vent clear of obstructions such as ice, snow, dirt, or insect nests.
    • Ensure the regulator's vent hole is positioned downward to prevent moisture accumulation and ice blockage.
  • Prevent Overcooling of the Tank:
    • Keep the propane tank at least 30% full to maintain proper vaporization pressure.
    • Insulate the tank with a weather-resistant thermal blanket (designed for propane use).
    • Elevate the tank off the ground on a stable platform to reduce contact with frozen surfaces.
  • Use a Two-Stage Regulator System:
    • Un dos-stage regulator setup improves propane pressure consistency and helps prevent freeze-ups.
    • Ensure regulators are properly sized for the demand of your appliances.
  • Apply Heat Safely:
    • Utilitzeu una potència baixatage electric heat source or heat tape designed for propane regulators.
    • Never use an open flame or direct heat source to thaw a frozen regulator.
  • Regular Maintenance and Inspections:
    • Inspect the propane system regularly for leaks, moisture buildup, or frost accumulation.
    • Have a qualified technician perform annual maintenance on the regulator and propane system.
