1. Introducció

This manual provides essential information for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your QNAP QSW-3216R-8S8T-US 16-Port Half-Width Rackmount 10GbE Unmanaged Switch. This device is designed to facilitate high-speed networking environments for small to medium businesses (SMB) and small office/home office (SOHO) setups.

The QSW-3216R-8S8T-US features eight 10GbE SFP+ ports and eight 10GbE RJ45 ports, supporting various devices and high-speed network connections. It is compliant with IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet and IEEE 802.3x Flow Control.

2. Configuració

2.2. Instal·lació física

The QSW-3216R-8S8T-US is a half-width rackmount switch. It can be installed in a standard 19-inch rack using the provided rackmount kit, or placed on a desktop.

• 10GbE RJ45 Ports (1-8): Use Category 6 (or better) Ethernet cables to connect devices such as computers, NAS, or other network equipment that support 10GBASE-T/NBASE-T speeds. These ports support 10G, 5G, 2.5G, 1G, and 100M speeds.
• 10GbE SFP+ Ports (9-16): Use SFP+ transceivers (not included) with fiber optic cables or Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables to connect to SFP+ compatible devices. These ports support 10G and 1G speeds.

2.4. Encès

Connect the provided power cord to the switch's power inlet and then to an AC power outlet. The switch will power on automatically. The 'Status' LED on the front panel will illuminate to indicate power.

3.1. Basic Functionality (Unmanaged Switch)

The QSW-3216R-8S8T-US is an unmanaged switch, meaning it operates as a plug-and-play device without requiring complex configuration. It automatically detects connected devices and their speeds, providing immediate network connectivity.

The switch features automatic loop detection and blocking to prevent network storms and ensure continuous operation. It also supports auto-negotiation on its RJ45 ports, automatically adjusting to the optimal speed and duplex mode of connected devices.

The switch offers a total non-blocking throughput of 160 Gbps and a switching capacity of 320 Gbps, ensuring high performance for demanding network tasks. It is designed for efficient data transfer in high-speed networking environments.

4. Manteniment

4.1. Dissipació de calor

The QSW-3216R-8S8T-US is designed for effective heat dissipation. Ensure adequate airflow around the device, especially if installed in a rack or enclosed space, to maintain optimal operating temperature. The fanless design ensures quiet operation.

4.2. Neteja

Regularly clean the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid or aerosol cleaners, as they may damage the device.

5. Solució De Problemes

5.1. Sense poder

• Verify the power cord is securely connected to the switch and a working AC outlet.

5.2. Sense connectivitat de xarxa

• Check the link/activity LEDs on the switch ports. If they are off, there might be a cable issue or the connected device is not powered on.
• For SFP+ connections, ensure compatible transceivers and cables are used.
• The switch features automatic loop detection and blocking. If a network loop is detected, the 'Loop detection' LED will illuminate, and the affected port will be blocked to prevent network instability. Resolve the loop by checking cable connections and network topology.

5.3. Slow Network Speed

• Ensure all connected devices and cables support 10GbE speeds for optimal performance. Using lower category cables (e.g., Cat5e for 10GbE) can limit speed.
• Verify that the network adapters in your devices are configured for the correct speed or set to auto-negotiate.
