The LILYGO® TTGO Meshtastic T-Echo is an advanced wireless communication module designed for long-range, off-grid communication, particularly compatible with the Meshtastic network. It features a robust NRF52840 SoC, a Semtech SX1262 LoRa RF transceiver, and a 1.54-inch E-Paper display. This device is ideal for DIY projects, LoRa networking, GPS positioning, IOT terminal control, and STEM education.

3. Setup and Firmware Installation

The LILYGO T-Echo requires Meshtastic firmware for full functionality. Follow these steps to install or update the firmware:

3.1. Descàrrega de firmware

  1. Obre el teu web browser and navigate to the Meshtastic documentation: meshtastic.org/docs/getting-started.
  2. On the left-hand menu, click on "Software" then "Device firmware".
  3. Locate and click the "Downloads" link on the Device firmware page to access the firmware download list.
  4. Baixeu el firmware adequat file (p. ex., firmware-t-echo-xxxx.uf2) for your device.
  5. Unzip the downloaded firmware package if it's compressed.

3.2. Instal·lació del firmware

  1. Connect your LILYGO T-Echo to your computer using the provided USB cable (USB-A to USB-C).
  2. The device should appear as a removable disk (e.g., "TECHBOOT"). Double-click on it. The disk will eject after a moment.
  3. Copia el descarregat firmware-t-echo-xxxx.uf2 file into the root directory of the "TECHBOOT" disk.
  4. The T-Echo will automatically refresh and restart after the file is copied, indicating successful firmware installation.

Nota important:

There are significant changes between Meshtastic firmware version branches 1.2.x and 1.3.x. For devices to communicate with each other, and with Python, Android, or other software applications, they must all be running the same branch of firmware.

4. Instruccions de funcionament

After successful firmware installation, you can operate your T-Echo using the Meshtastic mobile application.

4.1. Meshtastic Mobile App Setup

  1. Before operation, install the Meshtastic App on your phone. Download it from meshtastic.org.
  2. Open the Meshtastic app and switch to the connection interface.
  3. Cerca your updated T-Echo device and connect to it.
  4. Once connected, you can select your desired frequency band and enter a user name.
  5. Switch to the message interface within the app.

4.2. Enviament de missatges

To send messages to all users on the mesh network, click the "All" channel within the Meshtastic app. You can then type and send your message.

4.3. Button Functions (Meshtastic Firmware)

The T-Echo device has two buttons (Button 1 and Button 2) and LED indicators for various functions:

Indicadors LED:

  • LED vermell: USB power supply/charge indicator
  • LED verd: Indicador d'energia de la bateria

Button 1 Functions:

  • Press once: Reset
  • Press twice: Programming/Development (DFU Mode)

Button 2 Functions (when device is turned on):

  • Press once: Changes the page displayed on the device
  • Press twice: Send temporary node information
  • Press 3 times: Turn off/on the GPS
  • Press 4 times: Turn off/on the Backlight

Button 2 Functions (when device is turned off):

  • Press: Turn on the device

Nota:

Button 2 and touch functions are only available in the SoftRF program. If you use other programs, these functions can be freely defined.

6. Manteniment

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your LILYGO T-Echo, please follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Condicions ambientals: Keep the device dry and avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Neteja: Feu servir un drap suau i sec per netejar el dispositiu. No utilitzeu productes químics agressius ni materials abrasius.
  • Cura de la bateria: The device is equipped with an 850mAh battery. Charge it using the provided USB cable. Avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery for extended periods to prolong its lifespan.
  • Emmagatzematge: When not in use for a long time, store the device in a cool, dry place.

7. Solució De Problemes

  • Device not connecting to Meshtastic App:
    • Ensure the correct Meshtastic firmware is installed on your T-Echo. Refer to Section 3.
    • Verify that the Meshtastic app on your phone is up-to-date.
    • Check Bluetooth settings on your phone and ensure it's enabled and discoverable.
    • Restart both the T-Echo and your phone, then try connecting again.
  • Messages not sending or receiving:
    • Confirm that all devices in your mesh network are running compatible firmware versions (e.g., all 1.2.x or all 1.3.x).
    • Check the selected frequency band in the Meshtastic app and ensure it complies with local regulations and matches the devices in your network.
    • Ensure devices are within range of each other. LoRa range can be affected by obstacles and terrain.
    • Verify that the antenna is securely attached to the T-Echo.
  • T-Echo not turning on:

    • If the device is completely off, press Button 2 once to turn it on.

  • Personalització: For advanced users, the touch function and Button 2 can be freely redefined if you are using custom programs other than the default SoftRF.
