HFDY Loop Wideband Active Small Magnetic Loop Antenna

Manual d’instruccions de l’usuari

1. Producte acabatview

The HFDY Loop Wideband Active Small Magnetic Loop Antenna (HFDLOOP) is a compact, full-band magnetic field active receiving antenna designed for use with SDR receivers and various radios (HF Short Wave, AM, FM, VHF, UHF). It operates from 50 KHz to 500 MHz and is optimized for reception only (RX), not transmission (TX).

The system primarily consists of a small loop amplifier board, a top jumper board, feeder cables, and the loop antenna itself. The top jumper board features a switch that allows for different functional configurations, including a Mobius loop mode for enhanced voltage gain and an electric field shielding ring to reduce interference.

3. Instruccions de configuració

Follow these steps to set up your HFDY Loop Antenna:

  1. Assemble the Loop: Connect the two RG402 coaxial loop cables to the designated SMA connectors on the small loop amplifier board. Form the cables into a circular loop with an approximate diameter of 60cm. The top and bottom attachment points should be approximately 65cm apart.
  2. Mount the Loop: Use the provided traceless adhesive hooks to mount the loop in your desired reception area. Ensure the loop is positioned away from large metal objects or electrical interference sources for optimal performance.
  3. Connecteu el Amplifier to Bias T: Connect one end of a feeder cable (e.g., the 1-meter cable) to the output SMA (f) interface of the small loop amplifier board and the other end to the RF+DC input of the Bias T unit.
  4. Connectar l'alimentació: Connect the 12V linear power supply to the DC input jack on the Bias T unit. The amplifier board requires a supply voltage de 9V a 12V.
  5. Connectar al receptor: Connect the other feeder cable (e.g., the 5-meter cable) from the RF output of the Bias T unit to your SDR receiver or radio's antenna input. Use the 3.5mm to SMA adapter if your receiver has a 3.5mm antenna input.

4. Modes de funcionament

The top jumper board features DIP switches (labeled ON 1 2 3) that allow you to configure the antenna's operating mode. Adjusting the position of these switches enables different functions:

  • Mobius Loop Mode: This configuration can achieve twice the voltage gain compared to an ordinary small loop. Refer to Figure 4 for the switch settings for this mode.
  • Electrostatic Shield Magnetic Loop Mode: This mode effectively reduces interference caused by electric fields in the surrounding environment, such as lightning or static noise. Refer to Figure 4 for the switch settings for this mode.
  • Magnetic Field Loop Mode (Unshielded): This is a simpler configuration. The entire small ring can be replaced by a thicker conductor if desired. Refer to Figure 4 for the switch settings for this mode.

Important Note: This antenna is designed for receiving (RX) signals only and cannot be used for transmitting (TX).

6. Manteniment

The HFDY Loop Antenna is designed for durability and minimal maintenance. Keep the connections clean and secure. The small loop itself can be customized or replaced with a thicker wire if desired, as long as the electrical properties are maintained.

7. Solució De Problemes

  • Sense recepció:
    • Assegureu-vos que tots els cables estiguin ben connectats.
    • Verify the 12V power supply is correctly connected to the Bias T unit and is providing power.
    • Check the DIP switch settings on the jumper board for the desired operating mode.
    • Confirm your receiver is set to the correct antenna input.
    • Ensure the antenna is not near large metal objects or strong interference sources.
  • Excessive Noise/Interference:
    • Try adjusting the DIP switch settings to the Electrostatic Shield Magnetic Loop Mode.
    • Relocate the antenna to a quieter environment, away from household electronics, power lines, or other RF noise sources.
    • Ensure a low-noise power supply is used.
  • Amplifier Board Gets Hot:
    • It is normal for the Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) to generate some heat during operation, especially when powered at 12V. However, excessive heat could indicate an issue. Ensure proper ventilation around the amplifier board. If it becomes unusually hot or emits smoke/smell, disconnect power immediately.
  • No es pot transmetre:
    • This antenna is designed exclusively for receiving (RX) signals. It is not capable of transmitting (TX) and attempting to do so may damage the unit or your radio.

8. Consells d'usuari

  • Font d'alimentació: Using a stable, low-noise 9V-12V linear power supply is crucial for optimal performance and to minimize interference.
  • Compatibilitat: This antenna is compatible with a wide range of SDR receivers and portable radios, including models like the XHDATA D-808 and Tecsun PL-360, provided they have an appropriate antenna input (SMA or 3.5mm with adapter).
  • Col·locació: Experiment with different antenna placements to find the best reception. Higher locations and areas away from electronic devices often yield better results.
  • Selecció del mode: Utilize the different operating modes (Mobius, Electrostatic Shield, Magnetic Field) via the jumper board switches to optimize reception for specific frequencies or to combat local noise.
  • Només RX: Always remember that this antenna is for reception only. Do not connect it to a transmitter or attempt to transmit with it.
