1. Introducció

The Heltec 8-24S Smart Battery Management System (BMS) is an advanced solution designed for managing LiFePO4, Li-Ion, and LTO battery packs ranging from 8 to 24 series cells. This BMS features active balancing to optimize battery performance and longevity, with selectable balance currents of 0.6A, 1A, or 2A. It supports continuous discharge currents from 60A up to 200A, making it suitable for various high-power applications such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems. The integrated Bluetooth connectivity allows for convenient monitoring and control via a dedicated mobile application.

Please read and understand all safety instructions before installing or operating the BMS. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, serious injury, or property damage.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including insulated gloves and eye protection, when working with batteries.
  • Ensure all power sources are disconnected before making any connections to the BMS or battery pack.
  • Verify correct polarity for all connections. Incorrect wiring can cause severe damage to the BMS, battery, and connected equipment.
  • Do not short-circuit the battery terminals or BMS connections.

  • Only use the BMS with compatible battery types (LiFePO4, Li-Ion, LTO) and within the specified cell count range (8-24S).

4. Instruccions de configuració

4.1. Connexió de maquinari

Carefully follow the wiring diagrams provided. Incorrect wiring can permanently damage the BMS and battery pack.

  • Connect the balance wires to each cell of your battery pack, starting from B- (negative) and progressing to B+ (positive). Ensure the last power cord (B+) is connected to the main positive pole of the battery pack.

  • Nota important: For 8-20S and 8-24S BMS models, the wiring labels on the board may only be printed up to B17+. Always refer to the label on the BMS outer packaging box for the correct wiring sequence for your specific model.
  • Connect the main P- and B- cables as indicated on the BMS unit.
  • Connect any optional accessories such as the LCD display, current sensor, or activation switch to their respective ports. Refer to the port definitions below for guidance.

4.2. App Connection and Initial Setup

  1. Download the official Heltec BMS app and user manual (if not already included).
  2. Ensure all hardware connections are secure and correct.
  3. Power on the BMS. Use the display activation button or an additional switch if your model requires it to activate the BMS.
  4. On your mobile device, turn on Bluetooth.
  5. Open the Heltec BMS app. Tap on the top left corner of the app to search for available devices.
  6. Select your BMS device name from the list to connect. The default password is 1234.
  7. For the first start-up, parameters need to be set. The default setting password is 123456.
  8. Simply set the correct number of battery cells (units) and the battery type (e.g., LiFePO4, Li-Ion, LTO).
  9. Once parameters are set, navigate to the real-time status page in the app to check the battery status. Ensure no error messages are displayed. Blue indicates the highest cell voltage, and red indicates the lowest cell voltage.

5. Modes de funcionament

The Heltec Smart BMS features intelligent energy management with several working modes:

  • Mode d'emmagatzematge: In this mode, typically used during transportation, offline periods, or wireless transmission, the BMS consumes minimal battery pack current.
  • Mode de treball normal: When the charger is connected and charging activates, the BMS immediately transitions from Storage Mode to Normal Working Mode. All protection functions, equalization functions, and communication functions become active.
  • Mode d'espera: If the battery pack is in a static state (no charge or discharge current, and no equilibrium current) for a set period (1-30 days, configurable), the BMS will automatically enter Standby Mode.
  • Tancament: To prevent power wastage during prolonged disuse and potential damage to the battery pack, the BMS has an automatic shutdown voltage. When any cell voltage falls below this threshold, the BMS automatically shuts down.

6. Manteniment

  • Regularly check all wiring connections for tightness and signs of corrosion.
  • Keep the BMS unit clean and free from dust and debris.
  • Monitor battery cell voltages and overall pack health via the mobile app. Address any significant cell imbalances promptly.
  • Ensure the BMS is operated within its specified temperature range.
  • Periodically check for firmware updates for the BMS via the app to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.

  • BMS Not Activating/No Power:
    • Ensure the last "B+" line of the balance cable is correctly connected to the positive pole of the battery pack.
