1. Introducció

The JIKONG Smart Battery Management System (BMS) is an intelligent protection board designed for large-capacity series lithium battery packs. It features voltage acquisition, high-current active balancing, overcharge/over-discharge/overcurrent/over-temperature protection, coulomb meter, Bluetooth communication, and host computer monitoring. It is suitable for Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), Ternary Lithium (Li-ion), and Lithium Titanate (LTO) battery types.

This protection board utilizes energy transfer active balancing technology with independent intellectual property rights, achieving a maximum continuous 1A/2A balance current. This high-current active equalization technology ensures battery consistency, improves battery range, and extends battery life.

The BMS features a mobile APP compatible with Android and iOS operating systems. The APP connects via Bluetooth to monitor battery status, modify parameters, and control charge/discharge switches. Its compact size, ease of operation, and comprehensive functions make it ideal for high-power energy storage, base station backup power supplies, and solar power station battery packs.

3. Configuració i instal·lació

3.1. Activació del dispositiu

Before powering on the protection board, ensure the balance cable connections are correct and that P- and B- are correctly connected. Verify that the protection board is securely fixed to the battery core. Incorrect connections or loose mounting can lead to abnormal operation or severe damage.

After confirming the above, power on the protection board. The protection board does not have a power-on control switch; it is designed for charging activation. This means that after the battery assembly is complete, a charger must be connected (with a voltage 2V higher than the battery voltage) to activate the protection board.

In addition to charging activation, the protection board supports activation via a button or the display screen. Users with a display screen and button only need to insert the cable into the display interface and press the button to activate.

The JIKONG JK-PB1/2A16S-10/15/20P series protection board is suitable for 7-16 series lithium battery packs. The specific wiring method varies depending on the number of cells.

3.3. Interface Board Functions

The protection board comes with a factory-standard interface board for LED indicators, a reset switch, DIP switches, dry contacts, and communication functions.

  • Indicadors LED: Help determine the current BMS working status and remaining battery power.

  • Interruptors DIP: Used to set the address when the BMS is used in parallel, supporting 16 addresses (0-15).
  • Contactes secs: Control external devices like alarms and fans.
  • CAN and RS485-1: Used for communication between the BMS and an inverter.
  • RS485-2: Used for connecting battery packs in parallel and communicating with the upper computer.

3.4. DIP Switch Settings for Parallel Function

The parallel function supports up to 16 BMS units. Each BMS needs a unique address from 0 to 15. BMS with address 0 acts as the host, and BMS with addresses 1-15 are slaves. The address is set using the DIP switches on the interface board.

4. Funcionament

4.1. APP Installation and Usage

The mobile APP for the JIKONG BMS can be obtained by scanning the QR code below. Android Version 7 or higher is required.

Once installed, connect to the BMS via Bluetooth to monitor battery status and adjust parameters.

4.2. Configuració de paràmetres

Users can set various parameters through the mobile APP or the host computer software. This includes balance trigger voltage, continuous charge/discharge current, and protection thresholds. Refer to the 'Default Parameters' table in Section 2.2 for initial values.

4.3. Funcions de comunicació

The BMS supports CAN and RS485 communication. The default CAN communication rate is 250K. Users can select the appropriate inverter communication protocol in the APP based on their inverter brand and specifications.

4.4. Parallel Function

The parallel function allows multiple BMS units to be monitored simultaneously by a host computer via the RS485 bus. To use this function, you will need a USB to RS485 serial port cable and the JIKONG host computer software.

The RS485-2 interface on the BMS is used for parallel connections. The host computer connects to the host BMS (address 0) via a USB to RS485 serial port cable. Subsequent slave BMS units (addresses 1-15) are connected in sequence using RJ45 Ethernet cables between their RS485-2 ports.

5. Manteniment

5.1. Active Equalization

The BMS employs active equalization to transfer energy from high-voltage cells to low-voltage cells, ensuring battery consistency and prolonging life. Users can set the balance trigger voltage difference (mV) via the APP. When the voltage difference between any two battery strings exceeds the set value, balancing automatically activates. It deactivates when the difference falls below the set value. The default balance current is 1A/2A, adjustable based on battery capacity (recommended not to exceed 0.2C of battery capacity). If not needed, the balancing function can be turned off in the APP.

Ordinary home storage protection boards have a balanced current of 30-100 mA, while JIKONG Home storage BMS has a balanced current of 1A-2A.

5.2. Funció de calefacció

The BMS includes a heating function to warm the battery in low-temperature conditions using a resistance heater or heating film. This prevents charging/discharging failures due to reduced battery activity. The designed heating current is 10A. Users can activate/deactivate this function via the APP based on ambient temperature. It is recommended to install a normally closed temperature switch (45°C to 65°C) in series with the heating circuit as a secondary protection to prevent thermal runaway.

5.3. Intelligent Sleep

The BMS features an intelligent sleep function to reduce self-consumption. When the BMS is in standby (charging/discharging current less than 1A for 26 consecutive hours), it enters sleep mode. To reactivate, press the button or connect a charger.

6. Solució De Problemes

6.1. Característiques de protecció

The BMS is equipped with various protection functions to ensure battery safety:

  • Charge Overvoltage Protecció: Prevents overcharging by shutting off charging when any cell exceeds the set overcharge voltage. Charging resumes when all cells are below the recovery voltage.
  • Descàrrega Undervoltage Protecció: Prevents over-discharging by shutting off discharge when any cell falls below the set undervoltage. Discharge resumes when all cells are above the recovery voltage. The BMS will automatically shut down if any cell voltage drops below the automatic shutdown voltage.
  • Charge Overcurrent Protection: Shuts off charging if the charging current exceeds the set continuous charging current for a specified delay. Charging resumes after the overcurrent release time.
  • Discharge Overcurrent Protection: Shuts off discharge if the discharge current exceeds the set continuous discharge current for a specified delay. Discharge resumes after the overcurrent release time.
  • Protecció contra sobretemperatura: Shuts off charge/discharge if the temperature exceeds the set overtemperature threshold. Operation resumes when the temperature falls below the recovery threshold.
  • Low Temperature Protection (Charging): Shuts off charging if the temperature falls below the set low temperature threshold. Charging resumes when the temperature rises above the recovery threshold. For extremely cold areas, using the heating function is recommended.
  • Protecció contra curtcircuits: The BMS has a default short-circuit protection current. Users can set the short-circuit protection delay (uS) and recovery time (S) via the APP. If a short circuit occurs during charging or discharging, the BMS will stop operation and resume after the recovery time. Adjusting the delay may be necessary for loads with high instantaneous current.

6.2. Interruptor d'emergència

The emergency switch function allows the BMS to maintain charge and discharge for 30 minutes after activation via the APP, even if issues like over-temperature, over-discharge, over-charge, or string drops occur. This provides a temporary operational window, preventing immediate shutdown in critical situations.

Nota: When the device address is set to 0 (host), the last LED indicator L6 blinks. For other addresses (slaves), the slave LED is off and blinks after successful communication with the host.
