1. Introducció

The ATS25 Ultra is an advanced Software Defined Radio (SDR) receiver, an upgraded version of the ATS25PRO+. This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your ATS25 Ultra receiver.

2. Configuració

2.1 Initial Power-On and Factory Reset

  1. With the device turned off, press and hold the encoder button.
  2. While holding the encoder button, turn on the power.
  3. When the "LOADED DEFAULTS" message appears, release the encoder button. All receiver settings will be restored to their original values.

2.2 Connexió de l'antena

The ATS25 Ultra features a built-in WiFi antenna. For general reception, extend the telescopic antenna provided. For optimal performance, ensure the antenna is fully extended and positioned vertically.

2.3 Configuració Wi-Fi

  1. From the main screen, navigate to the "Settings" menu.
  2. Select "BT/WI-FI" to access wireless settings.
  3. Toggle "Wireless on" to enable the Wi-Fi module.

  6. Choose your desired network and press "SET" to establish a connection. If it's the first time connecting, you may need to enter a password.
  7. The indicator color for Wi-Fi connection will show: green (active), orange (no internet), red (error), gray (no networks).

2.4 Device Model Selection

For correct functioning of all components, select the appropriate model:

  1. From the main screen, navigate to "Settings" then "CONFIGURATION".
  2. Click "Select Model".
  3. Rotate the encoder to choose your model from the list. If your device has been modified or self-assembled, select "Generic" and then manually check the boxes for installed components.

The main screen displays essential information and controls. The layout varies slightly between FM and SSB modes.

Indicators and Panel Quick Start (FM Band)

  • S-meter: Premeu per canviar view (histogram/waterfall), press and hold to turn metering on/off. Displays RSSI/SNR for signal quality.
  • Volum: Press to turn sound on/off.
  • SQ: Squelch indicator.
  • MF: Simultaneous function indicator for multiple frequencies.
  • Indicator Panel: For switching circuit elements (click to display control buttons).
  • Connexió Wi-Fi: Tap to turn on/off. Colors indicate status: green (active), orange (no internet), red (error), gray (no networks).

  • Tuning Frequency (kHz): Click to directly set frequency without BFO offset. Numbers turn white when editable.
  • Variable Digit Indicator: Click on a digit to adjust it during tuning.
  • Wave Passage Indicator: Shows quality of passage (red: bad, yellow: average, green: good).
  • Amateur Radio Communication Type: Information about the type of communication used in the current range.

3.2 Quick Start Panel / BFO Generator

Accessed by clicking on the panel indicating circuit elements:

  • BT: On/off Bluetooth module for wireless audio devices.
  • LNA: On/off HF preampmés viu.
  • HIZ: Antenna input impedance switching (50 Ohm/Hi-Z).
  • BLOC: Locks touch screen and encoder (press to open lock panel).

Locks are disabled by pressing the encoder button.

BFO Generator

Used for fine tuning in SSB mode. Enter oscillator trim mode via the BFO button or long-pressing the encoder. Each range retains its BFO frequency value. Adjustment frequency varies from -1999 to +1999 Hz, with the step displayed on the status panel and changeable via the STEP button. For SI5351 generators, press BFO once to display the SI5351 frequency. Long-press the frequency to reset BFO or SI5351 to default values.

3.3 Adjusting Volume and Signal Gain

Control de volum

  • Press the VOL button or rotate the encoder to adjust volume.
  • Press MUTE or the volume indicator to mute sound.
  • Use squelch to mute sound when no station signal is present. Adjust squelch level by pressing in volume control mode or once on the encoder button; the squelch level bar will highlight and can be adjusted with the encoder. Squelch is not available for SSB mode.

Auto Gain and Attenuator

Use the built-in attenuator to control signal gain:

  • Press the ATT button to enter attenuator control mode. Rotate the encoder to set the desired attenuator level to eliminate RF input overload. Higher values mean weaker signal amplificació.
  • Press ATT again to exit. The set level is displayed in the status bar.
  • Press the AGC button to enable automatic signal gain. The status bar will display the corresponding indicator. Press AGC again to set maximum level gain; the indicator will extinguish.

3.4 Entering Frequency

Direct Frequency Entry Buttons

  • Press the FREQ button on the main screen.
  • Use number buttons to enter frequency; units are selected automatically.
  • Use the dot for FM broadcast frequencies.
  • Use the ←← button to delete incorrect numbers.
  • Click OK to set frequency; range and modulation type are selected automatically.
  • Press CANCEL to exit without changes.
  • Press SCAN to enter multi-frequency simultaneous listening mode (not available for SSB).

For each range and modulation type (AM/FM), you can create a list of 7 frequencies to scan. The range is selected automatically based on the entered frequency.

Amateur Radio and Broadcast Bands

Lists of frequency ranges are available via the HAM and BAND buttons. These lists cover amateur radio and broadcast bands. Range boundaries can be customized in the `setting.ini` file. Frequency values are viewable in the INFO section.

Selecting Modulation, Bandwidth, or Tuning Step

Click the appropriate MODE, BANDW, or STEP button on the main screen. The current settings are indicated in the lists. Grayed-out buttons indicate unavailable options for your receiver configuration. To exit without changes, click on the frequency.

Types of Modulation / Decoder of Morse Code and Digital Modes

All modulation types are available for amateur radio and HF bands.

  • CWR and CW: Enable Morse code decoder. Select alphabet in settings (page 14).
  • DIGI: Opens a list of digital communications to launch the corresponding decoder.

When a band is selected, the priority modulation type will automatically activate.

Morse Code Decoder

To decode Morse code:

  • Align the red mark on the "waterfall" with the signal and adjust frequency.
  • Set volume to make the signal clearly visible on the "waterfall" (around 45).
  • The yellow indicator flashes with the signal. The decode line displays characters and words per minute.

Digital Mode Decoders (RTTY, PSK, Feld-Hell, FT4/FT8)

To decode digital transmissions:

  • Align the red mark on the "waterfall" with the signal and adjust volume.
  • For RTTY L, use the left signal stream; for RTTY U, use the right.
  • Manually scroll RTTY, PSK, and FT4/FT8 decoding screens by pressing SCROLL and rotating the encoder.
  • RTTY: SET button sets baud rate (45.45/50/75).
  • Feld-Hell: Turn on/off anti-aliasing pictures.
  • PSK: Switches between BPSK31 and BPSK63 modes.
  • FT4/FT8: Used to set time manually (page 13).
  • Use SCROLL button to move Feld-Hell picture up/down.
  • Accurate time setting is crucial for FT4/FT8 decoding. Connect to Wi-Fi or set time manually.
  • When time is set, it's displayed in the UTC TIME line.
  • For FT4/FT8, time, power, signal, offset, and transmission data packet are displayed.

3.7 Range Scanner

The range scanner allows you to visualize signals across a frequency range.

  • Frequency at Cursor Position: Rotate the encoder to move the cursor or select a location.
  • Indication of Amateur Radio Communications: Shows types of communication.
  • Escala: Displays initial/final scanning frequency and marks of found signals.
  • Signal Graph: Shows scale step, chart scale, and graph based on RSSI and SNR.

Range Scanner Buttons

  • FREQ: Horizontal scale control.
  • RSSI: Vertical scale control.
  • SNR: Graphics contrast control (rotate encoder or press/hold center to set default).
  • PAUSA: Stops scanning and listens to broadcast (turns on automatically when cursor moves).
  • PAS: Selects encoder setting step.

3.8 Memory of Stations and Cities

Station Memory List

You can save current frequency, modulation type, and range to memory:

  • Rotate encoder to search for a saved cell, then press encoder or SET button.
  • List display filter is set in SETUP -> MEMORY LIST.
  • Press ADD to save current settings.
  • Press EDIT to edit a saved cell.
  • Press DEL to delete a cell.
  • When saving/editing, enter station name using on-screen keyboards. Rotate encoder to select location.
  • "THIS" saves to current city, "ALL" makes it available in any city, "NONE" means no connection.
  • Current city is shown at top; press CITY to go to city list.

List of Locations (Cities)

For correct time and station distribution, add your location to city memory. Add, change, and delete cities like stations. After editing city name, rotate encoder to select time zone. Press SCAN to search and save FM stations. Use the FM button to go to saved FM stations for the city.

For each new location, unique FM station lists can be saved. You can manually add or edit stations (page 19).

  • Add your location to the list of cities (page 9).
  • Press SCAN to start automatic search.
  • During search, current frequency and number of stations found are displayed.
  • Press CANCEL to abort search without saving.
  • After search, save found stations. Press the FM button to change automatically created station names.
  • Saved station names are used in FM mode (page 11) and retro scale (page 12).

3.10 FM and CB Channels

FM Channel Mode

Stored FM stations can be accessed as a channel list:

  • Press the FM button on the main screen to enter FM channel mode.
  • Displays station name, frequency, RDS info, stereo reception indicator, and time.
  • Switch channels by rotating the encoder or using PROG+ and PROG- buttons.
  • STEREO button: Turns stereo reception on/off.
  • RDS button: Turns RDS information reception on/off.
  • Press the FM button to exit.

CB Channel Mode

To listen to CB civil band channels:

  • Press the CB button on the main screen.
  • Displays channel number, letter grid, frequency, modulation type, and time.
  • Switch channels by rotating the encoder.
  • Switch grids using GRID+ and GRID- buttons.
  • EU button: On/off European frequency grid.
  • AM, NFM, LSB, USB buttons: Enable corresponding modulation.
  • Press the CB button to exit.

In channel modes, UP/DN buttons also search for stations. Tap screen center to change theme (four themes available).

3.11 Retro Scale

To display the retro scale, press the RETRO button on the main screen. The scale shows stations and cities stored in memory.

  • Navigate by rotating the encoder or sliding on the touch screen.
  • Swipe quickly to advance to the next station; rewind stops at the first available station.
  • Change rewind direction by rotating the encoder. Stop by pressing screen or encoder.
  • Change scale by clicking red 1:1 indicator and moving it while pressing.
  • Top of screen shows volume indicator (press to mute).
  • Screen displays current frequency, band name, city, time, and battery charge.
  • Retro S-meter (press to switch to spectrum indicator).
  • CIUTAT: List of cities.
  • BANDA: Band selection (ranges divided by wave passage conditions).
  • PAS: Tuning step selection.
  • VOL: Volume adjustment (rotate encoder).
  • BFO: BFO oscillator setting (SSB only).
  • Modulation switches automatically based on range at cursor.

To enter settings, press the SETUP button. Settings are divided into pages, navigated by encoder or PREV/NEXT buttons. Click WIFI for connection settings (page 15). Press RESET for default settings, SAVE/EXIT to confirm.

BT/WI-FI

  • Bluetooth: On/off for wireless headphones/speakers.
  • Wireless on: On/off Wi-Fi module.
  • Access point mode: Enables built-in hotspot.
  • Select AP: Displays available access points (also via WIFI button).
  • Internet access watchdog timer: Restarts connection if no internet.

Available Access Points

Scanning takes seconds. List and quantity of found access points are displayed. Rotate encoder to search. If no access points or weak signal, check Wi-Fi antenna.

  • WAN: On/off Wi-Fi module.
  • ESCANEAR: Cerca access points.
  • SET: Establish connection to selected access point (password needed for first time).
  • DEL: Remove access point from saved ones.
  • SAVED: List of saved access points.
  • Access Point Name Color: Blue (saved), Yellow (connecting), Green (active).

3.14 Setting Up Device Components

For correct functioning, select the correct model. The current model is displayed on the CONFIGURATION page. Save/restore settings or load factory settings.

  • Click "Select Model". If unmodified, rotate encoder to select.
  • If modified/self-assembled, choose "Generic", then check boxes for installed components: battery charge level, charging process, additional Lock button (ATS120/ATS200), Bluetooth, Morse code/digital decoder, HF preamplifier, 50 Ohm/Hi-Z antenna impedance, HF range filters, special mixer (ATS200), non-standard mixer connection.

Actualització del firmware

Firmware can be updated via PC or automatically from a server. Information on updates is on the UPDATE & LICENSE page.

  • To update online, connect to internet, then click "Update embedded software". Files es descarregaran.
  • After update, download additional files (localization, etc.).
  • To revoke activation key for another device, obtain code from website, log in, and revoke.

Information includes: firmware version, settings, equipment status, Wi-Fi connection, device components, range limits, manufacturer/model, serial number, software developers, copyrights. Also includes wave passage info on HF bands from HAMQSL.COM, with date/time of last download.

Virtual Encoder

Duplicates encoder actions via on-screen buttons. Called by sliding up from screen bottom. Close by sliding in opposite direction. Closes automatically after inactivity. Press and hold arrow buttons to simulate encoder rotation.

File Sharing Mode from PC

To access device memory before starting:

  • With device off, press and hold screen, then turn on power.
  • When message appears, release screen and connect to PC via USB.
  • Install device driver and A-explorer file sharing application (available on HARDUINO.RU).
  • Tap screen to exit.

In file sharing mode with PC, press and hold screen until calibration message appears. Continue holding to reset, or release and click indicated positions one by one. Calibration is complete.

Use the A-explorer application to download, upload, or delete files. Use Notepad for editing.

  • city.csv: List of locations (id, name, time zone).
  • preset.csv: List of stations (frequency, name, city id, modulation).
  • label.csv: List of frequency boundaries for communication types.
  • decoder.log: Decoder log file (erased when decoder starts).
  • scan.csv: Frequency lists for simultaneous listening.
  • ap.csv: List of saved Wi-Fi access points.
  • setting.ini: Override settings.
  • *.lng: Interface localization files.
  • value.hex: Dump of saved settings.
  • flag.ini: Data for country flag in RDS info band.

Estalvi d'energia

To increase battery life:

  • Enable short inactivity period for screen saver. Functions are suspended in standby, but broadcast listening continues.
  • Enable display backlight turn-off after inactivity. Turn on backlight by pressing LIGHT or tapping screen.
  • Reduce screen backlight brightness by pressing LIGHT and rotating encoder.

5. Manteniment

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ATS25 Ultra receiver, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Neteja: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the receiver. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong chemicals, as these can damage the casing i pantalla.
  • Emmagatzematge: Store the receiver in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.

6. Solució De Problemes

If you encounter issues with your ATS25 Ultra receiver, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
