The NOYAFA NF-8518 is a versatile Optical Wire Meter Tracer designed for comprehensive network and fiber optic cable testing and repair in both home and public facility environments. This device combines multiple functionalities into a single, portable unit, making it an essential tool for IT professionals and network technicians.

The transmitter unit offers cable continuity testing, cable scanning, precise cable length measurement, Power over Ethernet (PoE) testing, port flashing for identification, crimping quality assessment, Optical Power Meter (OPM) capabilities, and Visual Fault Locator (VFL) functionality. The receiver unit complements these features by supporting immediate cable continuity checks after scanning, and includes a built-in Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) detector and an LED light for enhanced usability in various conditions.

3. Disseny i controls del dispositiu

Familiarize yourself with the buttons, ports, and indicators on both the Transmitter and Receiver units.

3.1 Controls del transmissor

4. Configuració i càrrega

4.1 Càrrega inicial

Before first use, fully charge both the Transmitter and Receiver units. Connect the provided Type-C data cable to the charging port on each device and to a suitable USB power adapter (not included).

4.2 Engegada/apagada

Press and hold the Power button on both the Transmitter and Receiver units to turn them on or off.

5. Instruccions de funcionament

The NF-8518 offers a range of testing functions accessible via the Transmitter's menu and the Receiver's dedicated buttons.

5.1 Cable Continuity Testing (CONT)

This function checks for open circuits, short circuits, and cross connections in network cables.

  1. Connect one end of the RJ45 cable to the SCAN/CONT port on the Transmitter.
  2. Connect the other end of the RJ45 cable to the RJ45 port on the Receiver.
  3. On the Transmitter, navigate to the 'CONT' option in the main menu and press OK.
  4. The screen will display the continuity status for each wire pair.

5.2 Cable Scanning (SCAN)

Used to locate a specific cable among a bundle of cables.

  1. Connect one end of the RJ45 cable to the SCAN/CONT port on the Transmitter.
  2. On the Transmitter, navigate to the 'SCAN' option in the main menu and press OK.
  3. Turn on the Receiver and press the SCAN button.
  4. Move the Receiver's probe along the cables. The Receiver will emit an audible tone and its scan lights will illuminate when the target cable is detected.

5.3 Cable Length Measurement

Measures the length of network cables (RJ45).

  1. Ensure the cable is disconnected from all network devices.
  2. Connect one end of the RJ45 cable to the SCAN/CONT port on the Transmitter.
  3. On the Transmitter, navigate to the 'Length' option in the main menu and press OK.
  4. The device will automatically measure and display the cable length.

5.4 PoE Testing

Tests Power over Ethernet (PoE) status and voltage.

  1. Connect the RJ45 cable from the PoE source to the SCAN/CONT port on the Transmitter.
  2. On the Transmitter, navigate to the 'PoE' option in the main menu and press OK.
  3. The device will display information about the PoE standard (IEEE802.3 at/af or Non-Standard), power supply method (End Span/Mid Span/8-pin), and voltage.

5.5 Port Flashing

Helps quickly locate the target cable by making the corresponding port LED on a switch or router flash.

  1. Connect the RJ45 cable to the SCAN/CONT port on the Transmitter and the other end to a port on a network device (e.g., switch).
  2. On the Transmitter, navigate to the 'Flash' option in the main menu and press OK.
  3. Observe the network device; the connected port's LED will flash, allowing for easy identification.

5.6 Crimping Quality Test (QC Test)

Accurately identifies poor crimping by testing the continuity between RJ45 contacts and cable cores.

  1. Connect the crimped RJ45 connector to the SCAN/CONT port on the Transmitter.
  2. On the Transmitter, navigate to the 'QC Test' option in the main menu and press OK.
  3. The device will analyze the crimp quality and display results, helping to ensure network stability.

5.7 Optical Power Meter (OPM)

Measures the power of optical fiber signals across multiple wavelengths.

  1. Select the desired wavelength from the OPM menu on the Transmitter.
  2. Connect the fiber optic cable to the OPM port on the Transmitter.
  3. The device will automatically detect and display the optical power in dBm.

5.8 Localitzador visual de fallades (VFL)

Emits a visible red laser to detect faults in fiber optic cables.

  1. Connect the fiber optic cable to the VFL port on the Transmitter.
  2. On the Transmitter, navigate to the 'VFL' option in the main menu and press OK to activate the laser.
  3. Observe the fiber optic cable for any visible red light leakage, which indicates breaks, cracks, or bends.

5.9 Vol. sense contactetage (NCV) Detecció

The Receiver unit can detect live electrical equipment and wires without direct contact.

5.10 High-Brightness LED Lighting

The Receiver unit features two LED lighting beads to assist in dark working environments.

6. Manteniment

6.1 Atenció general

  • Mantingueu el dispositiu net i sec. Netegeu-lo amb un drap suau i sec.amp drap si cal. No utilitzeu productes de neteja abrasius ni dissolvents.
  • Store the device in its carry bag when not in use to protect it from dust and physical damage.
  • Eviteu exposar el dispositiu a temperatures extremes, humitat o llum solar directa.
  • Protect the optical ports (OPM, VFL) from dust and debris by keeping them capped when not in use.

6.2 Manteniment de la bateria

  • Recharge the battery when the low battery indicator appears to ensure optimal performance and prolong battery life.
  • If the device will not be used for an extended period, charge it periodically (e.g., every 3 months) to prevent deep discharge.

7. Solució De Problemes

7.1 Cable Continuity Test Issues

  • No reading or 'Open Circuit': Check if the cable is properly connected to both the Transmitter and Receiver. Inspect the cable for physical damage or improperly crimped connectors.
  • 'Short Circuit' indication: This means two or more wires are touching. Inspect the cable and connectors for damage or faulty wiring.
  • 'Cross Connection' indication: This means wire pairs are swapped. Verify the wiring standard (e.g., T568A/B) and ensure consistent crimping.

7.2 No Signal During Scanning

  • Ensure the Transmitter is in SCAN mode and the cable is connected.
  • Verify the Receiver is powered on and its SCAN function is active.
  • Adjust the sensitivity of the Receiver if available (not explicitly mentioned but common for cable tracers).

7.3 Optical Power Meter (OPM) or Visual Fault Locator (VFL) Not Working

  • Ensure fiber optic cables are clean and properly connected to the respective ports.
  • Check if the correct wavelength is selected for OPM measurements.
  • Verify the VFL laser is activated in the menu.
