Kidde HD135F

Kidde HD135F Hardwired Heat Detector User Manual

Model: HD135F

1. Introducció

The Kidde HD135F is a hardwired heat detector designed to provide early warning of dangerous temperature increases. This unit operates on your home's 120V AC power supply and includes a 9-Volt battery backup for continuous protection during power outages. Unlike smoke alarms, this heat detector responds to temperatures rising above 135° Fahrenheit (57.2° Celsius), making it suitable for areas where smoke or dust might cause false alarms in traditional smoke detectors, such as kitchens, garages, and attics. Integrating both heat and smoke detectors in your home can enhance overall fire safety.

2. Informació important de seguretat

  • Llegeix totes les instruccions: Before installation and operation, thoroughly read and understand this manual.
  • Col·locació: This heat alarm is recommended for areas where smoke alarms are not appropriate due to potential nuisance alarms, such as kitchens, garages, and attics.
  • Interconnection Limits: When interconnecting with other Kidde devices, the system must not exceed the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) limit of 18 initiating devices (smoke, heat, CO). Up to 6 strobe lights or relay modules can be interconnected in addition to the initiating devices.
  • Condicions de funcionament: Not recommended for use at temperatures below 32°F (0°C) or above 100°F (37.8°C), or in humidity higher than 95% relative humidity, as these conditions may reduce battery life or affect alarm performance.
  • Neteja anual: Clean your alarm annually using compressed air or a vacuum cleaner around the perimeter of the alarm and the heat sensor guard. If cleaning does not restore the alarm to normal operation, it must be replaced.
  • No pintar: Never paint the alarm. Paint can interfere with the sensor's ability to detect heat.

5. Instal·lació

Proper installation is crucial for the effective operation of your heat detector. Follow these steps carefully:

5.1 Selecció d'una ubicació

Install the heat detector on a ceiling or wall. For optimal performance, consider areas prone to rapid temperature increases but where smoke alarms might be prone to false alarms. Ideal locations include:

  • Garatges: Where vehicle exhaust or dust might trigger smoke alarms.
  • Àtics: Where extreme temperatures can occur.
  • Cuines: To detect cooking fires without nuisance alarms from cooking fumes.

Avoid installing in areas with high humidity (e.g., bathrooms with showers) or extreme temperatures, as these can affect performance and battery life.

5.2 Muntatge del suport

  1. Prepare the Electrical Box: Ensure power to the circuit is turned off at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel before beginning installation.
  2. Col·loqueu el suport de muntatge: Secure the mounting bracket to the electrical box on the ceiling or wall. Use the provided screws or appropriate hardware for your surface.

5.3 Wiring the Detector

  1. Connecteu l'arnès d'alimentació: Connect the quick-connect power harness to your home's 120V AC wiring. Typically, this involves connecting:
    • Black wire to the hot (live) wire.
    • White wire to the neutral wire.
    • Red wire to the interconnect wire (if interconnecting multiple alarms).
  2. Attach Harness to Detector: Plug the quick-connect power harness into the receptacle on the back of the heat detector.

6. Funcionament

6.1 Funcionament normal

During normal operation, with AC power connected, the green LED will be continuously lit. The red LED will flash approximately every 30-40 seconds to indicate that the unit is functioning correctly.

6.2 Testing the Detector

Test your heat detector weekly to ensure proper function:

  • Press and hold the Test/Hush button located on the front of the detector.
  • The alarm will sound a loud, pulsating tone, and the red LED will flash rapidly.
  • Release the button. The alarm should stop, and the red LED should return to its normal flash pattern.

Nota: The alarm is loud. Stand at arm's length from the unit when testing.

6.3 Condició d'alarma

If the ambient temperature around the detector rises above 135°F (57.2°C), the unit will sound a loud, pulsating 85-decibel alarm. The red LED will flash rapidly during the alarm condition. If interconnected, all compatible alarms in the system will also sound.

6.4 Hush Feature

The Hush feature can temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 7-10 minutes. This is useful for nuisance alarms caused by temporary high heat sources (e.g., a very hot oven). To activate Hush:

  • Press the Test/Hush button briefly during an alarm.
  • The alarm will silence, and the red LED will flash every 1.5 seconds to indicate it is in Hush mode.
  • After the Hush period, if the temperature is still above 135°F, the alarm will reactivate.

7. Manteniment

7.1 Substitució de la bateria

The 9-Volt battery provides backup power during AC outages. Replace the battery immediately when the unit emits a one-side chirp approximately every 30-40 seconds, indicating a low or missing battery.
