Introducció
The Focusrite ISA One is a single-channel microphone preamplifier designed to deliver the classic Focusrite Heritage Sound in a rugged, portable all-metal enclosure. Descended from the console modules commissioned by Sir George Martin in the mid-1980s, the ISA One incorporates the renowned Lundahl input transformer, providing a unique character ideal for classic microphones. It features a flexible, independent DI channel and offers optional 192kHz precision A/D conversion, making it a versatile tool for artists, engineers, and producers in both studio and live performance settings. Its four carefully-selected input impedances allow for optimal matching with various microphones, enabling users to achieve either a transparent modern sound or emphasize specific microphone characteristics.
Característiques clau
- ISA series transformer-based preampmés viu: Encased in a rugged and portable chassis, ISA One offers the classic Focusrite microphone preamplifier in a highly cost-effective and flexible package.
- Flexible, independent DI channel: ISA One is ideal for both engineers and demanding performers alike, featuring independent gain control, an output for routing to an amp, an independent XLR output on the rear and routing to the optional A-D converter.
- Switchable impedance: Choose one of four carefully selected input impedances, including the original ISA110 setting, to suit any microphone.
- Headphone output with volume control: ISA One can feed either a sum of the two inputs to the headphones output, or an external stereo cue mix (such as a stereo feed from an interface) via two TRS jack inputs on the rear of the unit.
- Dedicated insert point: Allows you to place extra processing between the preamplifier or DI and the optional converter, such as an EQ or compressor.
- Optional stereo 192kHz A-D converter: You can choose to upgrade your unit with an optional digital card that delivers the best A-D performance in its class, with a dynamic range of 118dB.
- Lundahl LL1538 Input Transformer: The original mic transformer used in the original Red modules helps to provide the unique sound and performance of this ground-breaking design.
- Backlit VU meter with variable calibration: ISA One has a moving coil VU meter with variable calibration to suit analogue and digital recording media, alongside two six-LED peak meters; inputs can be metered either pre- or post-insert.
Guia de configuració
Desembalatge i inspecció inicial
Carefully remove the ISA One from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage that may have occurred during transit. Ensure all included components are present: the ISA One unit and the IEC Power Cable.
Connecting the ISA One
Before connecting any cables, ensure the unit is powered off. Connect the IEC Power Cable to the rear of the ISA One and to a suitable power outlet. For audio connections, use high-quality XLR cables for microphone inputs and outputs. The independent DI channel can be connected via a 1/4-inch jack on the front panel. Refer to the rear panel diagram for main output and insert point connections.

Instruccions de funcionament
Tauler frontal sobreview
The front panel of the ISA One provides intuitive controls for input selection, gain adjustment, impedance matching, and monitoring. Familiarize yourself with the layout before operation.

Figure 2: Front panel of the Focusrite ISA One. Key controls include input selection (Mic, Line, Inst), gain and trim knobs, impedance selector, phantom power, phase, high-pass filter, insert, VU meter, and A-D conversion status indicators.
Input Selection and Gain Control
Use the 'Input' buttons to select between Microphone, Line, or Instrument inputs. The main gain knob (labeled 'Gain') provides coarse gain adjustment, while the 'Trim' knob allows for fine-tuning the input level. The selectable impedance feature (Low, ISA 110, Med, High) allows you to optimize the preamp's response to different microphones, influencing the tonal character. Engage +48V phantom power for condenser microphones as needed. The 'Phase' button inverts the signal phase, and 'HPF' activates the high-pass filter to reduce low-frequency rumble.
Direct Input (DI) Channel
The ISA One features a completely independent DI channel on the front panel, perfect for connecting guitars, basses, or keyboards directly. It has its own gain control and impedance selection (Low/High) for optimal instrument matching. The DI signal can be routed to the optional A/D converter or sent to a separate XLR output on the rear panel.
Monitorització d’auriculars
The dedicated headphone output with volume control allows for direct monitoring of your input signal or an external stereo cue mix. Connect your headphones to the 'Phones' jack and adjust the 'Volume' knob. The 'Cue Mix' input on the rear panel allows for feeding an external stereo signal for monitoring purposes.
A/D Conversion (Optional)
For units equipped with the optional digital card, the A-D section provides high-quality analogue-to-digital conversion up to 192kHz. Use the 'Clock Select' knob to choose the desired sample rate. The 'Ext' and 'Lock' indicators show external clock synchronization status. This feature allows for direct digital output to your recording interface or DAW.

Manteniment
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Focusrite ISA One, keep the unit clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning the exterior. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents. Store the unit in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.
Resolució de problemes
If you encounter issues with your ISA One, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Sense energia: Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the unit and the power outlet. Check the power switch on the rear panel.
- Sense senyal: Verify all audio cables are correctly connected. Check input selection (Mic/Line/Inst) and ensure phantom power is engaged for condenser microphones. Adjust gain and trim levels.
- So distorsionat: Reduce input gain to prevent clipping. Ensure impedance settings are appropriate for your microphone or instrument. Check cable integrity.
- Digital Clock Issues (if applicable): Ensure the clock source is correctly selected and synchronized. Check word clock connections if using external synchronization.
