1. Introducció
This manual provides detailed instructions for the assembly, operation, and maintenance of your Celestron ExploraScope 114AZ Reflector Telescope. The ExploraScope 114AZ is a manual alt-azimuth Newtonian reflector telescope designed for observing celestial objects such as the Moon, planets, star clusters, and brighter deep-sky objects. Please read this manual thoroughly before using your telescope to ensure proper setup and optimal viewexperiència.
2. Informació de seguretat
ADVERTIMENT: Never look directly at the Sun with your telescope or its finderscope without a professionally made solar filter. Permanent and irreversible eye damage may result.
- No deixeu el telescopi sense supervisió, sobretot si hi ha nens presents.
- Manipuleu els components òptics amb cura per evitar ratllades o danys.
- Ensure the tripod is stable on a level surface to prevent tipping.
3. Què hi ha a la caixa
Verifiqueu que tots els components que s'enumeren a continuació siguin presents al vostre paquet:
- Tub òptic del telescopi
- Adjustable Height Tripod
- Safata d'accessoris
- Lent Cap
- StarPointer Finderscope

4. Muntatge i muntatge
The ExploraScope 114AZ is designed for quick and easy assembly without the need for tools. Follow these steps to set up your telescope:
- Set up the Tripod:
Spread the tripod legs apart until they are fully extended. Extend the center column of the tripod to your desired height. Ensure the tripod is stable on a flat surface.

Figure 4.1: The telescope tripod with legs extended.
- Attach the Accessory Tray:
Locate the accessory tray and attach it to the center brace of the tripod. This tray provides stability and a convenient place to store eyepieces.
- Mount the Optical Tube:
Place the telescope optical tube onto the alt-azimuth mount head. Secure it using the provided mounting screws or clamps. Ensure it is firmly attached.

- Install the StarPointer Finderscope:
Slide the StarPointer finderscope into its bracket on the optical tube. Tighten the small set screw to hold it in place. Remove the plastic tab from the battery compartment to activate the battery.

- Insert an Eyepiece:
Loosen the set screw on the focuser. Insert the 20mm eyepiece into the focuser and tighten the set screw to secure it. This eyepiece provides lower magnification for wider fields of view.

5. Operating the Telescope
5.1 Alineació del cercador
The finderscope is a crucial tool for locating objects. It must be aligned with the main telescope before use.
- Point the main telescope at a distant, easily identifiable object (e.g., a streetlight or a distant tree) during daylight hours.
- Center the object in the 20mm eyepiece of the main telescope.
- Look through the finderscope and use its adjustment screws to move the red dot until it is centered on the same object.
- Once aligned, the finderscope will help you quickly point the main telescope to desired celestial objects.
5.2 Enfocament
To achieve a clear image, turn the focus knob located on the focuser tube until the image in the eyepiece is sharp. You may need to adjust focus slightly as objects move or as temperature changes.
5.3 Using the Alt-Azimuth Mount
The ExploraScope 114AZ features a manual alt-azimuth mount with a panning handle and clutch for smooth and accurate pointing.
- Moviment: Loosen the clutch knob on the mount to move the telescope freely in altitude (up/down) and azimuth (left/right).
- Seguiment: Once an object is located, tighten the clutch. Use the slow-motion control rod (if applicable) for fine adjustments and to track objects as they drift across the field of view due to Earth's rotation.

5.4 Eyepieces and Barlow Lens
Your telescope comes with two eyepieces and a 3x Barlow lens to provide various magnification levels.
- 20mm Eyepiece: Provides lower magnification and a wider field of view, ideal for locating objects and observing larger celestial bodies like the Moon.
- 4mm Eyepiece: Offers higher magnification for detailed views of planets and smaller objects.
- 3x Barlow Lens: This accessory triples the magnification of any eyepiece it is used with. Insert the Barlow lens into the focuser first, then insert an eyepiece into the Barlow lens.
Magnification Calculation: To calculate magnification, divide the telescope's focal length (e.g., 900mm for this model) by the eyepiece's focal length. If using a Barlow lens, multiply the result by the Barlow's power.

Figure 5.2: The included 20mm eyepiece, 4mm eyepiece, and 3x Barlow lens.
6. Manteniment i cura
- Òptiques de neteja: Dust and moisture on optical surfaces can degrade image quality. Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove loose dust. For smudges, use a specialized optical cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth. Avoid touching optical surfaces with your fingers.
- Emmagatzematge: When not in use, cover the telescope with its lens cap and store it in a dry, dust-free environment. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity.
- Parts mecàniques: Periodically check all screws and knobs to ensure they are secure. Do not overtighten.
7. Solució De Problemes
| Problema | Causa possible | Solució |
|---|---|---|
| La imatge és borrosa | Out of focus; poor seeing conditions; temperature changes. | Adjust the focus knob. Wait for atmospheric conditions to stabilize. Allow telescope to acclimate to ambient temperature. |
| Cannot find objects | Finderscope not aligned; using too high magnification. | Align the finderscope (see Section 5.1). Start with the 20mm eyepiece for a wider field of view. |
| La imatge és tènue | Light pollution; high magnification; dirty optics. | Move to a darker location. Use a lower magnification eyepiece. Clean optics if necessary (see Section 6). |
| Objects drift out of view ràpidament | Earth's rotation; mount not tracking. | This is normal. Use the slow-motion controls to track objects. |
