MSA Gravity SureLine Two-Worker Temporary Horizontal Lifeline

Manual d'instruccions model 10150423

1. Producte acabatview

The MSA Gravity SureLine Temporary Horizontal Lifeline is designed to provide fall protection for up to two workers simultaneously during horizontal movement at temporary work sites. This system is suspended between two approved anchor points and features unique bypass shuttles, allowing workers to pass each other while maintaining 100% tie-off. The integrated shock absorber manages fall forces, and the system is constructed with durable synthetic rope.

MSA Gravity SureLine Two-Worker Temporary Horizontal Lifeline system components

Figura 1: The complete MSA Gravity SureLine Temporary Horizontal Lifeline system. This image displays the main synthetic rope lifeline with an integrated shock absorber, a tensioning mechanism, and two bypass shuttles. Also shown are two red auxiliary ropes, which are typically used for anchor connection or as part of the system's setup.

Components clau:

  • Synthetic Rope Lifeline: The primary horizontal line providing fall arrest attachment.
  • Integral Shock Absorber: Reduces forces on the worker and anchor points during a fall.
  • Bypass Shuttles: Allow two workers to move past each other without disconnecting.
  • Tensioning Mechanism: For proper setup and adjustment of the lifeline.
  • Connection Hardware: Carabiners and thimbles for secure attachment.

2. Informació de seguretat

ADVERTIMENT: Failure to follow these instructions and warnings may result in serious injury or death. This equipment must only be used by trained and competent persons. Always inspect equipment before each use.

  • Formació: Users must be trained by a competent person in the proper use, inspection, and limitations of this equipment.
  • Inspecció: Conduct a thorough visual inspection of all components before each use. Look for cuts, abrasions, fraying, heat damage, chemical damage, or any other signs of wear or damage.
  • Punts d'ancoratge: Anchor points must be capable of sustaining loads of at least 5,000 lbs (22.2 kN) per worker attached, or meet OSHA 1926.502 requirements for engineered systems.
  • Liquidació: Ensure adequate fall clearance below the work area to prevent contact with lower levels or obstructions in the event of a fall.
  • Compatibilitat: Use only with compatible fall arrest components (e.g., full-body harness, energy-absorbing lanyard) that meet applicable standards.
  • After a Fall: If the system has been subjected to fall arrest forces, it must be immediately removed from service and inspected by a competent person or destroyed.
  • Factors ambientals: Be aware of environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, corrosive environments, or sharp edges that could affect the lifeline's integrity.

3. Configuració i instal·lació

Proper installation is critical for the safe operation of the horizontal lifeline. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Select Anchor Points: Identify two suitable anchor points that meet the strength requirements outlined in the Safety Information section. These points should be positioned to provide the desired working area and minimize sag.
  2. Attach First End: Securely attach one end of the lifeline, including its connection hardware, to the first approved anchor point. Ensure all connections are fully engaged and locked.
  3. Route Lifeline: Extend the lifeline to the second anchor point, ensuring it is free of twists, knots, and obstructions.
  4. Attach Second End and Tension: Attach the second end of the lifeline, which includes the tensioning mechanism, to the second approved anchor point. Use the tensioning mechanism to apply the appropriate tension to the lifeline. Refer to the product markings or specific instructions for the required tension level, which is crucial for minimizing sag and fall distance.
  5. Install Bypass Shuttles: Slide the bypass shuttles onto the lifeline. Ensure they move freely along the rope.
  6. Inspecció final: Before allowing workers to connect, perform a final visual inspection of the entire system to confirm all connections are secure, the lifeline is properly tensioned, and there are no obstructions or potential hazards.

4. Instruccions de funcionament

Once the horizontal lifeline is properly installed and inspected, workers can connect to it for fall protection.

  1. Connect to Lifeline: Each worker must connect their energy-absorbing lanyard (or other compatible connecting device) to one of the bypass shuttles on the horizontal lifeline. Ensure the lanyard is properly attached to the dorsal D-ring of their full-body harness.
  2. Maintain 100% Tie-Off: The bypass shuttles are designed to allow workers to pass each other without disconnecting from the lifeline. Workers should always remain connected to the lifeline while working in the fall hazard area.
  3. Moviment: Move along the lifeline smoothly. Avoid sudden jerks or excessive force on the system.
  4. Limitacions: This system is rated for a maximum of two workers. Do not exceed this limit.
  5. Procediments d'emergència: All workers must be familiar with the site's emergency rescue plan in the event of a fall.

5. Manteniment

Regular maintenance and inspection are essential to ensure the continued safety and functionality of the lifeline system.

  • Inspecció prèvia a l'ús: As detailed in Section 2, inspect all components before each use.
  • Inspecció periòdica: A competent person must perform a detailed inspection at least annually, or more frequently based on usage and environmental conditions. Maintain records of these inspections.
  • Neteja: Clean the synthetic rope and metal components with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely away from direct sunlight or heat. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
  • Emmagatzematge: Store the lifeline system in a clean, dry, and cool environment, away from direct sunlight, corrosive chemicals, sharp objects, and extreme temperatures. Coil the rope neatly to prevent tangling.
  • After a Fall: Any component of the system that has arrested a fall must be immediately removed from service and either destroyed or returned to MSA for evaluation.

6. Solució De Problemes

This section addresses common issues that may arise during the use of the horizontal lifeline.

  • Issue: Lifeline appears to have excessive sag after tensioning.
Solució: Re-check anchor point strength and stability. Ensure the tensioning mechanism is fully engaged and properly adjusted according to manufacturer specifications. Verify that the lifeline length is appropriate for the span between anchors.
  • Issue: Bypass shuttles are not moving smoothly along the lifeline.
Solució: Inspect the lifeline for any twists, knots, or damage that might impede shuttle movement. Check the shuttles themselves for debris or damage. Ensure the lifeline is properly tensioned, as slack can affect shuttle performance.
  • Issue: Visible damage or wear on the synthetic rope.
Solució: Immediately remove the entire lifeline system from service. Do not attempt to repair damaged components. Contact MSA for guidance on replacement or repair options.
  • Issue: Connection hardware (carabiners, thimbles) is difficult to operate or shows signs of damage.
Solució: Remove the system from service. Do not force damaged hardware. Ensure all locking mechanisms function correctly. Replace any damaged or malfunctioning hardware.
