4. Instruccions d'instal·lació

4.1. Precaucions de seguretat

• Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local codes.

4.2. Muntatge

The BAL700 ballast is suitable for installation inside, on top of, or remotely from the fixture. Its compact design allows for versatile placement within most fluorescent fixtures.

1. Choose a mounting location that allows for proper heat dissipation and access for maintenance.
2. Secure the ballast using appropriate fasteners (not included) through the mounting tabs.

4.3. Cablatge

Refer to the wiring diagram provided on the ballast label for specific connections. General steps include:

1. Connect the unswitched AC power supply (120V or 277V) to the ballast's input wires.
2. Connect the ballast's output wires to the fluorescent lamp(s) and the existing AC ballast as per the diagram.

4. Install the LED test switch in an accessible location on the fixture or wall plate.

Nota: The BAL700 can be used in both switched and unswitched fixtures. For switched fixtures, ensure the emergency ballast receives unswitched power to allow for emergency operation regardless of the wall switch position.

5. Instruccions de funcionament

5.1. Funcionament normal

When AC power is present, the BAL700 ballast charges its internal battery. The connected fluorescent lamp(s) will operate normally via the existing AC ballast. The LED indicator light on the test switch will illuminate, indicating that the battery is charging and the unit is ready for emergency operation.

5.2. Emergency Operation

Upon interruption of normal AC power, the BAL700 automatically switches to emergency mode. The internal solid-state transfer switch activates, powering one fluorescent lamp from the internal NiCd battery for a minimum of 90 minutes. When AC power is restored, the unit automatically returns to normal operation and begins recharging the battery.

5.3. Testing the Unit

Regular testing is required to ensure proper emergency function and compliance with safety codes.

1. Prova mensual: Press and hold the push-to-test switch for at least 30 seconds. The emergency lamp should illuminate. Release the switch; the lamp should extinguish (if AC power is present).
2. Prova anual: Conduct a full 90-minute discharge test. Interrupt AC power to the fixture for 90 minutes. The emergency lamp should remain illuminated for the entire duration. After the test, restore AC power and allow the battery to recharge for 24 hours.

Nota: Keep records of all tests for inspection purposes.

6. Manteniment

The BEST BAL700 Emergency Lighting Ballast is designed for low maintenance. The NiCd battery is sealed and maintenance-free. However, regular checks are recommended:

• Inspecció visual: Periodically inspect the unit for any visible damage, loose connections, or signs of overheating.
