Introducció
The Planet VC-231G is a high-performance Gigabit Ethernet-over-VDSL2 Converter designed to extend network connectivity over existing copper telephone lines. It supports symmetric data rates up to 200/160Mbps (G.INP, Sym, 8dB) over distances up to 300m, and 20/12Mbps over 1.4km. Utilizing VDSL2 technology, including ITU-T G.993.5 vectoring, the VC-231G minimizes crosstalk interference to maximize line bandwidth. This device provides a cost-effective solution for extending Ethernet networks without requiring new wiring, making it ideal for various multimedia services and long-reach Ethernet applications.

Panell frontal

This image displays the front panel of the Planet VC-231G. On the left, there is an RJ11 VDSL port. To its right, a series of LED indicators are visible: VDSL (link/activity), 1000 (Gigabit Ethernet link), 100 (Fast Ethernet link), and PWR (power status). On the far right, a 10/100/1000T Ethernet port is present. Below the LEDs, two small indicators labeled CO and CPE denote the VDSL operating mode.
- VDSL Port (RJ11): Connects to the VDSL line.
- Port Ethernet (RJ45): 10/100/1000T Gigabit Ethernet connection.
- LED PWR: Indica l'estat d'alimentació.
- 1000 LED: Lit when a Gigabit Ethernet link is established.
- 100 LED: Lit when a Fast Ethernet link is established.
- VDSL LED: Indicates VDSL link status and activity.
- CO/CPE Indicators: Show the VDSL operating mode (Central Office or Customer Premises Equipment).
Panell posterior

This image shows the rear panel of the Planet VC-231G. On the left, a 5V DC power input jack is present. To its right, a set of DIP switches (labeled 1, 2, 3, 4) are visible, used for configuring various operational parameters such as Mode (CO/CPE), Transmission (G.INP/Interleave), Band, and SNR. An OFF/ON power switch is also located on this panel.
- Entrada d'alimentació de 5 V CC: Es connecta a l'adaptador de corrent inclòs.
- Interruptors DIP: Used for advanced configuration of VDSL2 parameters.
- Mode (CO/CPE): Configures the device as a Central Office or Customer Premises Equipment unit.
- Transmission (G.INP/Interleave): Selects the transmission mode.
- Banda: Configures the VDSL2 frequency band.
- SNR (ràtio senyal/soroll): Adjusts the SNR margin.
- Interruptor OFF/ON: Power toggle for the device.
Instruccions de configuració
- Connexió d'alimentació: Connect the provided 5V DC power adapter to the '5V DC' input jack on the rear panel of the VC-231G. Plug the adapter into a power outlet. The PWR LED on the front panel should illuminate.
- VDSL Line Connection: Connect an RJ11 phone cable from your VDSL line (or VDSL2 splitter) to the 'VDSL' port on the front panel.
- Connexió Ethernet: Connect an Ethernet cable from your network device (e.g., router, computer, switch) to the '10/100/1000' Ethernet port on the front panel.
- DIP Switch Configuration (Advanced Users): If specific VDSL2 parameters are required by your service provider or network setup, adjust the DIP switches on the rear panel accordingly. Refer to the detailed product manual for specific switch settings for CO/CPE mode, transmission, band, and SNR. For most plug-and-play scenarios, default settings may be sufficient.
- Verifica la connexió: Once all cables are connected, observe the LED indicators on the front panel. The PWR LED should be solid. The VDSL LED should light up and may blink during synchronization, then become solid when a stable VDSL link is established. The 1000 or 100 LED should light up indicating an active Ethernet connection.
Note: Ensure all cables are securely connected. If using a VDSL2 splitter, connect the phone line to the splitter, and then connect the splitter's VDSL output to the VC-231G's VDSL port.
Instruccions de funcionament
The Planet VC-231G operates as a transparent bridge, converting Ethernet signals to VDSL2 signals and vice-versa. Once successfully set up, it requires minimal user intervention.
- Monitoring Link Status: Regularly check the PWR, VDSL, 1000, and 100 LEDs on the front panel to ensure proper operation. A solid PWR LED indicates the device is powered on. A solid VDSL LED indicates a stable VDSL connection. A solid 1000 or 100 LED indicates an active Ethernet connection at the respective speed.
- Transmissió de dades: Data will automatically flow between your Ethernet network and the VDSL2 line once both links are established.
Manteniment
- Mantenir net: Ensure the device is free from dust and debris to prevent overheating. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Ventilació adequada: Do not block the ventilation holes on the device. Ensure it is placed in a well-ventilated area.
- Integritat del cable: Periodically check all connected cables (power, VDSL, Ethernet) for any damage or loose connections.
- Actualitzacions de firmware: Comproveu el del fabricant website periodically for any available firmware updates. Follow the provided instructions carefully for any update procedures.
Resolució de problemes
Sense poder
No VDSL Link (VDSL LED Off or Blinking Continuously)
- Check RJ11 Cable: Ensure the VDSL cable is securely connected to both the VC-231G and the VDSL line/splitter.
- Verify VDSL Line: Confirm the VDSL line is active and functional from your service provider.
- Configuració del commutador DIP: If applicable, verify that the DIP switch settings (especially CO/CPE mode) match the requirements of your VDSL service.
- VDSL2 Splitter: If using a splitter, ensure it is correctly installed and functioning.
No Ethernet Link (1000/100 LED Off)
- Comprova el cable Ethernet: Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the VC-231G and your network device.
- Verifica el dispositiu de xarxa: Confirm your connected network device (e.g., computer, router) is powered on and its Ethernet port is active.
- Tipus de cable: Ensure you are using a standard Ethernet cable (Cat5e or higher).
Velocitat lenta
- Qualitat del cable: Ensure high-quality VDSL and Ethernet cables are used.
- Configuració del commutador DIP: Incorrect SNR or transmission mode settings via DIP switches can affect performance. Consult your service provider or the product manual for optimal settings.
- Qualitat de línia: VDSL performance is highly dependent on the quality and length of the copper line. External interference can also impact speed.
