Setup and Adjustment (Without Baby)

Before placing your baby in the carrier, it is recommended to practice putting on and adjusting the carrier to ensure a comfortable and secure fit. This section details how to prepare the carrier for use.

1. Adjust Waist Straps

1. Pick up the carrier and fasten the waist belt securely around your waist, ensuring it clicks into place.
2. Thread the strap through the elastic safety loop for added security.

2. Adjust Shoulder Straps and Chest Strap

1. Slip your arms through the shoulder straps, one at a time.
2. Reach both hands behind you and buckle the chest strap. Pull it so it feels snug yet comfortable.
3. Tighten the shoulder straps by pulling them forward.

Operating Instructions: Carry Positions

The Ergobaby Original Carrier supports three ergonomic carry positions: Front-Inward, Hip, and Back carry. Always ensure your baby is in an ergonomic "M" shape position with knees higher than their bottom.

Front-Inward Carry

This position is suitable for infants (with insert) and babies who can hold their head up unassisted. Ensure the carrier is adjusted as per the "Setup and Adjustment" section.

1. Fasten the waist belt securely around your waist.
2. Hold your baby against your chest. Position their legs on either side of your waist.
3. Support your baby with one hand and slip one arm through a shoulder strap.
4. Switch hands to support your baby and slip the other arm through the second shoulder strap.
5. Reach back and buckle the chest strap, then tighten it for a snug fit.
6. Tighten the shoulder straps by pulling them forward towards your baby.
7. Ensure your baby is centered, comfortable, with legs extended, and head upright. You should be able to kiss the top of your baby's head.

The hip carry position is ideal for babies with good head and neck control who enjoy observing their surroundings from your side.

1. Fasten the waist belt with the carrier body positioned over your hip. Ensure the safety buckle is used.
2. Loosen and unbuckle both shoulder straps. Connect the padded shoulder strap in front of you to the webbing strap behind you.
3. Slip the connected shoulder strap over your head and one arm.
4. Pick up your baby and lower them into the center of the carrier, ensuring their legs are below all straps and their bottom is at the base of the carrier body.
5. Hold your baby with one arm and use the other to tighten the shoulder strap until comfortable.
6. Wrap the remaining padded shoulder strap from the back around your waist, feed it through the safety loop, and buckle it to the webbing from the front.
7. Tighten all straps for a secure and comfortable fit.

The back carry position is recommended for older babies and toddlers who have strong trunk control and can sit unassisted. It is often easier to perform with assistance or after significant practice.
