1. Introducció

The ESAB Savage A40 welding helmet is engineered to provide superior protection and clarity for a wide range of welding applications. Always prioritize safety when performing welding operations. This helmet is designed to protect your eyes and face from harmful radiation, sparks, and spatter. Adhere to the following safety guidelines:

• Protecció ocular: This helmet provides protection against ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation, even in the light state. However, always ensure the auto-darkening function is operational before welding.
• Inspecció: Before each use, inspect the helmet for any damage, cracks, or loose parts. Ensure the outer and inner protective lenses are clean and free from scratches. Replace any damaged components immediately.
• Ajust adequat: Adjust the headgear to ensure a snug and comfortable fit. The helmet should not obstruct your vision or fall off during use.
• Ventilació: Always weld in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling hazardous fumes.

4. Configuració

4.1 Desembalatge

Carefully remove the welding helmet and all accessories from the packaging. Verify that all components are present and undamaged.

4.2 Ajust del casc

Proper headgear adjustment is crucial for comfort and stability.

1. Headband Diameter: Rotate the knob at the back of the headgear to adjust the headband to fit snugly around your head.
2. Top Strap Adjustment: Adjust the top strap to position the helmet correctly on your head, ensuring the viewing area is at eye level.

4.3 Battery Installation/Check

The ESAB Savage A40 helmet uses 1 CR2 battery (included). The helmet is typically ready for use out of the box. To check battery status or replace the battery:

1. Locate the battery compartment, usually on the ADF unit.
2. Ensure the battery is correctly inserted with the correct polarity.
3. A low battery indicator may be present on the ADF. If illuminated, replace the battery.

Familiarize yourself with the helmet's controls before beginning any welding task.

5.1 Encès/Apagat

The auto-darkening filter is typically solar-powered with battery assist and activates automatically when exposed to light. There is no manual on/off switch for the ADF itself. The helmet will enter a low-power state when not in use.

5.2 Shade Adjustment

The external knob on the side of the helmet allows for quick adjustment of the welding shade.

• Rotate the external knob to select a shade level between DIN 9 and DIN 13.
• Choose the appropriate shade based on your welding process and amperage. Refer to standard welding shade charts for guidance.

5.3 Control de la sensibilitat

The sensitivity control, located inside the helmet, adjusts how readily the ADF reacts to the welding arc.

• Adjust the sensitivity knob (labeled "SENSITIVITY") to a higher setting for welding low amperage TIG or in environments with low ambient light.
• Lower the sensitivity in bright environments or when experiencing unwanted darkening from other light sources.

5.4 Delay Control

The delay control, also located inside the helmet, determines how long the lens remains dark after the welding arc ceases.

• Establir a short delay for quick tack welding to speed up work.
• Establir a longer delay per alt amperage welding to protect your eyes from residual glow of the weld puddle.

5.5 Grind Mode

The external grind button allows for easy switching to grind mode without removing the helmet.

• Press the external "Grind" button to activate Shade 4 Grind Mode. The lens will remain in a light shade suitable for grinding operations.
• Press the button again to return to welding mode.

6. Manteniment

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your welding helmet.

6.1 Neteja

• Carcassa del casc: Clean the helmet shell with a mild soap and water solution using a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Protective Lenses: Wipe the outer and inner protective lenses with a clean, soft cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a lens cleaning solution specifically designed for plastic or glass. Do not use harsh chemicals.
• ADF Filter: The auto-darkening filter itself should only be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. Do not immerse the ADF in water or cleaning solutions.

6.2 Substitució de la lent

Replace scratched or damaged outer and inner protective lenses immediately to maintain clear vision and protection.

1. Carefully remove the retaining frame or clips holding the protective lens in place.
2. Remove the old lens.
3. Insert the new protective lens, ensuring it is clean and free of fingerprints.
4. Secure the retaining frame or clips.

6.3 Substitució de la bateria

When the low battery indicator illuminates or the ADF fails to darken, replace the CR2 battery.

1. Locate the battery compartment on the ADF unit.
2. Obriu el compartiment i traieu la pila CR2 antiga.
