4. Setup: Chain Preparation

5.1 Boil-in-Bag Method

This method utilizes the product's packaging for convenient wax melting and application.

1. Place your thoroughly cleaned and dried chain into the SILCA Secret Chain Wax Blend bag with the unmelted wax.
2. Bring a pot of water to a simmer (do not boil vigorously).
3. Carefully place the sealed wax bag containing the chain into the simmering water. Ensure the bag is fully submerged.
4. Allow the wax to melt completely, typically taking 10-15 minutes. Gently agitate the bag periodically to ensure the wax penetrates all chain links.
5. Once melted and agitated, carefully remove the bag from the hot water using tongs or heat-resistant gloves.
6. Hang the chain to dry. As the wax cools, it will solidify on the chain.
7. Once cool and solid, gently flex the chain to break the wax bonds and ensure smooth articulation before re-installing on your bicycle.

5.2 Wax Melter Method (Optional)

For users with a dedicated wax melting system, the wax can be transferred and melted in the device.

1. Carefully cut open the SILCA Secret Chain Wax Blend bag and transfer the wax into your wax melter.
2. Heat the wax according to your melter's instructions until it is fully liquid.
3. Submerge your thoroughly cleaned and dried chain into the molten wax.
4. Agitate the chain within the wax for several minutes to ensure complete penetration into all links and rollers.
5. Carefully remove the chain from the melter using a hook or wire.
6. Hang the chain to dry. As the wax cools, it will solidify on the chain.
7. Once cool and solid, gently flex the chain to break the wax bonds and ensure smooth articulation before re-installing on your bicycle.

6.1 Re-waxing Frequency

The frequency of re-waxing depends on riding conditions and mileage. For typical road use, re-waxing every 300-500 miles (500-800 km) is recommended. In wet or dusty conditions, more frequent re-waxing may be necessary. A visual inspection of the chain for dryness or increased noise can indicate when re-waxing is due.

6.2 Interim Lubrication

• Wax not adhering properly: This is almost always due to insufficient chain cleaning. Ensure the chain is completely free of all previous lubricants and moisture before waxing. Repeat the cleaning process if necessary.
• Chain is noisy after waxing:
