Introducció
The Klein Tools VDV500-163 Digital Tone Generator is designed for wire identification, wire tracing, and wire pair identification across various cable types. This device assists professionals in verifying cable integrity and locating specific wires within complex installations. It is compatible with Ethernet, telephone, speaker, coax, and data cables, including RJ45, RJ11, and RJ12 connections. For advanced tracing and wire mapping on active networks, this unit can be paired with the Klein Tools Digital Tracing Probe (Cat. No. VDV500-223), sold separately.
Configuració
Instal·lació de la bateria
The VDV500-163 requires 4 x 1.5V LR03 AAA size alkaline batteries for operation. Batteries are included with the device. To install or replace batteries:

- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen the screw securing the cover.
- Remove the cover and insert the 4 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).

Connexió de cables de prova
The tone generator comes with angled bed-of-nails (ABN) clips for connecting to unstripped wires. These clips are color-coded (red and black) and connect to the corresponding ports on the top of the unit.

Continuity and Polarity Testing
In Test Mode, the device can check for continuity and polarity. Results are displayed on clearly labeled LEDs:
- Pass/Short LEDs: Indicate continuity status.
- NRM/REV LEDs: Indicate polarity (Normal/Reverse).

Generació de tons
The Digital Tone Generator provides three unique tones to assist in tracing wires. Use the tone selection button to cycle through 1000Hz and 1500Hz options.

RJ45 Port Usage
The integrated RJ45 port allows for easy testing of RJ45, RJ11, and RJ12 data cables. Simply plug the cable into the port to perform tests.

Tracing Unstripped Wires with ABN Clips
The rugged Angled Bed of Nails (ABN) clips securely attach to unstripped wires, allowing for tracing and identification without damaging insulation.

Digital Mode (Requires VDV500-223 Digital Tracing Probe)
When used in conjunction with the Klein Tools Digital Tracing Probe (Cat. No. VDV500-223, sold separately), the VDV500-163 can trace and locate cables on an active network. This setup allows for identification of cable paths and destinations, as well as wire mapping to check Pin-to-Pin connections and shield detection.
Manteniment
Neteja
To clean the device, wipe it with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the device is powered off and disconnected from any cables before cleaning.

Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display or when the device performance degrades. Refer to the 'Battery Installation' section for detailed instructions.
