4.1 Configuració inicial

  1. Apagueu l'alimentació: Before starting, turn off the main circuit breaker to your electrical panel.
  2. Place the Main Unit: Place the EM16 main unit in the electrical panel. Ensure it is at least 2 inches away from any live parts, excluding insulated components.
  3. Instal·leu l'antena: Create a small hole in the electrical panel to thread the antenna cable through. Insert the antenna cable into the labeled jack at the top of the energy monitor and tighten securely. Make sure the antenna is not enclosed within the panel, as this can cause signal interference.
  4. Plug in the Wire Harness: Insert the power harness into the top of the energy monitor until it snaps securely into place. This harness allows access to single-phase power, two-phase power, and three-phase power.

4.2 Wire Identification

Before connecting the current transformers, identify your electricity type:

  • Single-phase, 3-wire systems: Typically have two hot wires (black and red) and one neutral wire (white). Common in U.S. residences, providing 240 volts (between the two hot wires) and 120 volts (between either hot wire and the neutral wire).
  • Single-phase, 2-wire systems: Typically have one hot wire (black or red) and one neutral wire (white).
  • Three-phase, 4-wire Wye systems: Typically have three hot wires (usually black, red, and blue) and one neutral wire (white). Common in commercial and industrial applications, not typical in residential settings.

Observe the main circuit breaker's rating to confirm your system type:

  • Single-phase, 3-wire systems: The main circuit breaker is usually a 240-volt breaker.
  • Single-phase, 2-wire systems: The main circuit breaker is typically a 120-volt breaker.
  • Three-phase, 4-wire Wye systems: The main circuit breaker is typically a three-phase breaker and has a higher current rating.

4.3 Wiring Method (Example: Single-phase, 3-wire Systems)

  1. Connect the Neutral Wire: Connect the white wire from the power harness to the neutral bus bar in your electrical panel.
  2. Connect LA (Black Wire): Connect the black wire from the power harness to the A-phase circuit breaker. This provides power to the equipment and monitors the A-phase voltage. Snap the corresponding 60A current transformers (A1-A6) onto the A-phase wires to monitor the current.
  3. Connect LB (Red Wire): Connect the red wire from the power harness to the B-phase circuit breaker. This monitors the B-phase voltage. Snap the corresponding 60A current transformers (B1-B6) onto the B-phase wires to monitor the current.
  4. Connect LC (Blue Wire): If more circuits need to be monitored on the A-phase, connect the blue wire from the power harness to the A-phase circuit breaker. This monitors the A-phase voltage. Snap the corresponding 60A current transformers (C1-C6) onto the A-phase wires to monitor the current.

Important Note on Current Direction:

  • When installing the current transformer, please pay attention to its orientation.
  • For general consumption monitoring, ensure that the current direction is from K to L (arrow points away from the breaker).
  • When monitoring the wiring of your solar feeder, ensure that the current direction is from L to K (arrow points towards the breaker).
  • If the reading is opposite to the expected value (e.g., negative power), simply reverse the connection direction of the current transformer.

4.4 Insulate Empty Ports

Securely insert the supplied 2.5 mm insulation plugs into each empty port on the EM16 to ensure complete insulation.

Restore power to all circuits by reattaching the electrical box panel and turning on all circuit breakers that were turned off during installation.

The unit's green LED should begin to flash slowly after 2 seconds. If the LED is flashing slowly, the unit is ready for configuration. If the LED is not blinking normally, press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds to reinitialize the unit.

4.6 Complete App Setup

Download the Refoss app from your device's app store. Open the Refoss app and follow the on-screen instructions to add a discovered device via Bluetooth pairing. Enter your 2.4GHz Home Wi-Fi password to connect your device to your home network. Once connected, your Smart Energy Monitor is successfully installed.

The EM16 Wi-Fi Energy Monitor is compatible with Home Assistant. Simply update the firmware in the Refoss app to seamlessly integrate your energy management system with your smart home platform, enabling centralized control and automation. All data is stored locally, ensuring your privacy is protected without cloud processing.

  • Smart Consumption Alerts: Set personalized usage targets for each circuit. Receive immediate alert notifications when power consumption reaches a set value, allowing you to take prompt action.

  • LED Not Blinking Normally: If the green LED on the unit is not blinking slowly after power-on, press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds to reinitialize the unit.
