Introducció

The InSinkErator LEDefense Flange is an antimicrobial LED accessory designed for InSinkErator continuous-feed garbage disposal models. It utilizes a purplish-blue, UV-free visible light (400 - 420 nm) to combat odor-causing bacteria and inhibit mold growth, contributing to a cleaner kitchen sink environment. This manual provides detailed instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance of your LEDefense Flange.

Instruccions d'instal·lació

This section guides you through the installation of your InSinkErator LEDefense Flange. If you are installing a new InSinkErator disposer along with this accessory, you can skip the "Removing the Existing Disposer" steps.

1. Removing the Existing Disposer (if applicable)

1. Apagueu l'alimentació: Ensure electrical power is turned off at the fuse box or circuit breaker before starting.
2. Disconnect drain trap: Disconnect the drain trap from the waste discharge tube.
3. Disconnect dishwasher: If connected, disconnect the dishwasher from the disposer.
4. Remove disposer: While supporting the disposer, insert the end of a wrenchette into the right side of the mounting lug and turn clockwise. The disposer will fall free.
5. Loosen mounting screws: Using a flathead screwdriver, loosen the three screws on the mounting assembly.

7. Remove assembly: Remove the mounting assembly.
8. Remove old flange: Remove the old flange from the sink.
9. Clean putty: Remove any old plumber's putty from the sink with a putty knife.

2. Installing the LEDefense Flange

For standard sinks 1/2" thick or less:

1. Position flange: Place the LEDefense flange and the rubber gasket into the sink opening. Rotate the flange so the stamped lettering ("InSinkErator" and "LEDefense") is upright. (Note: Plumber's putty can be used as an alternative to the rubber gasket.)
2. Secure flange: Place a weight, such as the disposer, on the LEDefense sink flange to hold it in place. Use a towel to prevent scratching the sink.
3. Insert gaskets and rings: From underneath the sink, insert the fiber gasket, backup flange, and mounting ring. Hold them in place while inserting the snap ring.
4. Secure snap ring: Hook the snap ring over the wire guard and firmly press on the opposite end of the snap ring until it snaps into the groove of the LEDefense flange.
5. Remove wire guard: Reach inside the LEDefense flange and pull down on the tabs to remove the wire guard. It is no longer needed.
6. Route power cable: Rotate the mounting ring so its hole aligns with the power cable. Route the power cable through this hole.

For sinks over 1/2" thick and up to 3/4" thick:

1. Remove wire guard: Reach inside the LEDefense flange and pull down on the tabs to remove the wire guard. It is no longer needed.
2. Insert gaskets and rings: Insert the fiber gasket, backup flange, and mounting ring onto the LEDefense flange.
3. Loop power cable: Loop the power cable through the snap ring. Feed the cable into the hole on the mounting ring. (Note: At this step, the snap ring hangs loosely in the power cable loop.)
4. Secure snap ring: Pull the power cable tight to ensure the snap ring will not pinch the cable. Press the snap ring firmly onto the LEDefense flange until it snaps into the groove.

3. Connecting the Disposer

1. Apretar els cargols: Tighten the screws evenly and firmly against the backup flange.
2. Replace mounting gasket: Replace the mounting gasket by pushing it onto the neck of the disposer. (Note: Your disposer will already have this part. Discard the disposer mounting gasket and use the provided LEDefense mounting gasket.)
3. Install/Reinstall disposer: Install or reinstall the disposer. Turn the mounting ring until all three mounting tabs are latched over the ridges on the slide-up ramps. PRECAUCIÓ: To avoid leaks and/or potential falling hazards, ensure all 3 mounting tabs are latched over the ridges.
4. Reconnect plumbing: Connect or reconnect the plumbing and, if used, the dishwasher connection. (Note: Please reference your disposer manual for specific installation, plumbing, and electrical instructions.)

4. Testing for Leaks

1. Insert stopper: Insert the stopper (not included with LEDefense Flange Accessory, but included with LED Disposal) into the sink opening.
2. Fill sink: Fill the sink with water.
3. Drain and check: Remove the stopper to drain the water. Look under the sink for any leaking water. If leaks are present, recheck all connections and tighten as necessary.

5. Potència de connexió

1. Reconnect electrical power: Turn on the electrical power at the fuse box or circuit breaker.

3. Connectar: Plug the power adapter into a continuously powered outlet. Alternatively, plug it into the second outlet of an InSinkErator dual outlet sinktop switch. If using a two-way splitter, ensure it is grounded and UL listed on a dedicated, continuous GFCI outlet.
4. Comproveu el cablejat: Ensure that all wires do not touch any sharp edges.

Note: It is normal to see a violet light at the grommet under the sink once power is connected.

The InSinkErator LEDefense Flange is designed for continuous operation, providing 24/7 odor defense and mold inhibition.

• The purplish-blue LED light will remain on continuously as long as the power adapter is plugged into a continuously powered outlet.
• If using a dual outlet switch (e.g., InSinkErator sinktop switch), the LED light will temporarily turn off when the disposer runs. This temporary interruption does not impact the long-term effectiveness of the LEDefense technology.
• The LED light requires fewer than 4.7 Watts for around-the-clock freshness.

Manteniment

While the LEDefense Flange actively combats odor-causing bacteria and inhibits mold growth, it is important to note that this technology is not a substitute for regular manual cleaning and proper disposal usage. Continue to clean your sink and disposal regularly as part of your kitchen hygiene routine.

For optimal performance, ensure the LED light remains unobstructed. Periodically check the flange and baffle for any debris buildup that might block the light.

If the LED light is not illuminating, please check the following:

• Ensure the power adapter is securely plugged into a continuously powered outlet.
• Verify that the power cord is properly connected to the LEDefense flange.
• Check your home's fuse box or circuit breaker to ensure power to the outlet is on.
• If using a dual outlet switch, confirm the switch is in the "on" position for continuous power to the LEDefense flange.
