Most LaCie drives come preformatted in exFAT for compatibility with both Windows and Mac. To use Apple Time Machine, you must reformat the drive to a Mac-native file system like APFS or Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Note that reformatting erases all data.
If your drive doesn't mount, check that all cables are securely connected and try a different port. For desktop models like the 2big Dock, ensure the external power supply is connected. If using a Thunderbolt connection on a PC, ensure your Thunderbolt firmware is up to date.
Most LaCie Rugged portable drives are bus-powered via USB-C or Thunderbolt. However, some high-capacity models or older interfaces may require the use of the included power cable if the host computer does not provide sufficient power service.
